Senior Data Scientist, AI Product Insights

Mixpanel is the leading product intelligence and analytics platform. The Proactive Insights team is building an AI-first analytics layer that proactively surfaces insights. As the first Data Scientist embedded in product engineering, you will own the analytical design for Signals, Forecasting, Simulation, and Cohort Detection, ensuring rigorous causal grounding and statistical validity.

• Own end-to-end analytical design for Signals, Forecasting, Simulation, and Cohort Detection
• Design and apply causal inference methods
• Build time-series forecasting models
• Develop survival analysis and retention models
• Develop clustering and behavioral similarity approaches
• Document methodology and validate production results
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, finance, and data science teams

• MS or PhD in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years applying statistical modeling to product/business problems
• Hands-on causal inference experience (propensity score matching, regression discontinuity, difference-in-differences, instrumental variables)
• Experience with survival analysis or retention modeling (Cox proportional hazards, Kaplan-Meier)
• Strong Python fluency (statsmodels, scikit-learn, pandas)
• Experience with time-series forecasting (ARIMA, exponential smoothing, TimesFM, Chronos)
• Experience with clustering and similarity methods
• SQL fluency

• Experience with large-scale behavioral event data
• Feature engineering from raw event streams
• Structural equation modeling or causal DAGs
• Productionizing offline batch analyses
• Comfort in production codebase
• Experience at analytics/observability/growth platforms
• Evaluating LLM-generated explanations
• Comfort with AI coding tools

The total target cash compensation (TTCC) is $216,000—$254,000 USD, including base and variable compensation. Equity and benefits are also provided.
