About the job

About Replit

Replit is the agentic software creation platform that enables anyone to build applications using natural language. With millions of users worldwide, Replit is democratizing software development by removing traditional barriers to application creation.

About the Team

Product Platform builds and owns the shared foundations the rest of Replit is built on, spanning the full stack so every other team can ship features safely and quickly: backend infrastructure, connectors, product primitives, and the frontend platform. The work is high-leverage and horizontal; the role gives exposure across the whole of engineering. The team is small, collaborative, and values curiosity and clear thinking over pedigree.

About the Role

As a Product Engineer, you can focus on frontend, backend, or full-stack work building the shared systems other teams depend on. The work is guided by questions about shared systems' speed, reliability, cost-efficiency, safety, consistency, and developer speed.

What you'll do

  • Design reusable primitives and interfaces with clear contracts and documentation that other teams adopt.
  • Work directly with product teams to turn their friction into platform improvements.
  • Profile and instrument shared systems, then ship improvements that move latency, cost, and reliability.
  • Harden systems against failure and abuse, and make safe defaults the path of least resistance.
  • Set technical direction in architecture and design reviews, and document decisions and rollout plans.

Areas you might work in

  • Backend infrastructure: data and service infrastructure including caching, databases, APIs, and observability.
  • Connectors: platform for connecting services (communication, payments, developer tools, cloud storage, CRM, data warehouses) with OAuth, permissions, and multi-tenant infrastructure.
  • Product primitives: building blocks like identity and entitlements, localization, and configuration.
  • Frontend platform: architecture and platform layer behind core product surfaces, including frontend frameworks, data layer, shared UI primitives, and client performance.

Required skills and experience

  • Experience shipping and operating software in production (reliability, performance, incidents, observability).
  • Built and operated platform systems that other teams depend on.
  • Able to make and communicate tradeoffs across UX, correctness, delivery speed, and long-term maintainability.
  • Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, design, and product partners.
  • Fluent in modern web stacks (TypeScript, React, Node.js, Postgres), with depth in frontend, backend, or full-stack.

If you're excited about this role but don't meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
