Software Engineer, Payments

Airbnb was born in 2007 and has grown to over 5 million hosts welcoming over 2 billion guest arrivals. The Airbnb Payments team builds a world-class payments platform moving billions of dollars in 191 countries and 75 currencies. We are looking for Senior Software Engineers to join the Payments Risk Engineering team, designing and building scalable systems to detect, mitigate, and resolve risk issues across the payments platform.

• Build and maintain a long-term technology stack with well-defined APIs, service-oriented, modular, and observable.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and XFN partners to build business insights and respond to fraud attacks.
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party vendors, payments networks, and processors.
• Develop and iterate on risk detection, mitigation, and resolution strategies.
• Focus on continuous monitoring and alerting to improve quality and observability.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to advance engineering processes.

• 3+ years of relevant industry experience (Payments/Fintech) as a backend software engineer.
• Proficient in at least one major programming language (preferably Java/Kotlin/Python).
• Experience in React (or equivalent JS library) is nice to have.
• Exposure to architectural patterns of large, high-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, high volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
• Passion for delivering products end-to-end, including A/B testing.
• Rigor in high code quality, automated testing, and engineering best practices.
• Experience or desire to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with experimentation and machine learning techniques.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in CS or equivalent experience.
• Experience in fraud/spam detection in payments is a plus.

Base pay range: $162,000—$180,000 USD. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
